46 New Life – New Language (Colossians 4:2-6) Pastor John October 2017

47 “Death and life are in the power in the tongue.” Proverbs 18:21

48 “The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life.” Proverbs 10:11

49 “The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.”
Proverbs 15:4

50 From the text . . . Your mouth ought to match your new heart.

51 “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45
“Our lips are our own: who is Lord over us?” Psalm 12:4 “Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, and keep the door of my lips.” Psalm 141:3

52 From the text . . . Your mouth ought to match your new heart. Your speech ought to spill over with grace.

53 Grace-filled words are . . .
Words of blessing and refreshing.

54 When people leave your presence – is their spirit renewed and refreshed because of what you have said? “Surely you have instructed many, and you have strengthened weak hands. Your words have upheld him who is stumbling, and you have strengthened feeble knees.” Job 4:3-4 “the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother.” Philemon v. 7

55 Grace-filled words are . . .
Words of blessing and refreshing. Words of forbearance, allowance and patience.

56 Gracious words make allowances for others even when they mess up.
Are you good at making allowances for people or do you have ridiculously high expectations? Are your quick to point out, talk about and dwell on the weakness of others? Do your words help to impart strength, encourage and give hope?

57 From the text . . . Your mouth ought to match your new heart. Your speech ought to spill over with grace. Your words ought to promote spiritual wellness.

58 Our words should be valuable.
Our words should be preserving. Our words should be healing.

59 “Faithful are the wounds of a friend.”
Proverbs 27:6

60 Our words should be valuable.
Our words should be preserving. Our words should be healing. Our words should make others thirsty.

61 “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14

62 From the text . . . Your mouth ought to match your new heart. Your speech ought to spill over with grace. Your words ought to promote spiritual wellness. Your language should be laced with wisdom.

63 “The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.” Isaiah 50:4

64 “No one ever spoke the way this man does.”
What does the Bible say about the words that came out of the mouth of Jesus? “All spoke well of Him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from His lips.” Luke 4:22 “You are the most excellent of men and your lips have been anointed with grace, since God blessed you forever.” Psalm 45:2 “No one ever spoke the way this man does.” John 7:46

66 O Spirit, come make us humble. We turn our eyes from evil things;
Give Us Clean Hands We bow our hearts, we bend our knees; O Spirit, come make us humble. We turn our eyes from evil things; O Lord, we cast down our idols.

67 let us not lift our souls to another.
Give us clean hands, give us pure hearts; let us not lift our souls to another.

68 let us be a generation that seeks,
And God, let us be a generation that seeks, that seeks Your face, O God of Jacob, O God, O God of Jacob

69 O Spirit, come make us humble. We turn our eyes from evil things;
We bow our hearts, we bend our knees; O Spirit, come make us humble. We turn our eyes from evil things; O Lord, we cast down our idols.

70 let us not lift our souls to another.
Give us clean hands, give us pure hearts; let us not lift our souls to another.

71 let us be a generation that seeks,
And God, let us be a generation that seeks, that seeks Your face, O God of Jacob, O God, O God of Jacob

72 let us not lift our souls to another.
Give us clean hands, give us pure hearts; let us not lift our souls to another.

73 let us be a generation that seeks,
And God, let us be a generation that seeks, that seeks Your face, O God of Jacob, O God, O God of Jacob
