Fig 1 Zenith Alpha Thoracic Endovascular Graft (Cook Medical, Bloomington, Ind): (A) Proximal straight main body component, (B) proximal tapered main body component, (C) distal main body component, and (D) distal extension. A and B, The proximal main body component includes an uncovered stent at the proximal end and an internal sealing stent with fixation barbs that protrude through the graft material. All other stents are external to the graft material, except for the distal-most stent. C, Within the distal component, the three most proximal stents are located internal to the graft material to promote sealing between the proximal and distal components. All other stents are located external to the graft material, except for the second most distal stent, which is located internal to the graft material, and the distal-most stent, which is an uncovered stent with barbs for fixation. (The Zenith Alpha Thoracic Endovascular Graft is an investigational device in the United States and is limited by United States law to investigational use. It is Conformité Européene Mark approved only for the indication of endovascular treatment of patients with aneurysms and ulcers in the descending thoracic aorta having vascular morphology suitable for endovascular repair.) Fig 2 Introduction systems of (left) the Zenith Alpha Thoracic Endovascular Graft and (right) Zenith TX2 (Cook Medical, Bloomington, Ind). Notice the smaller diameter of the Zenith Alpha introduction system, along with the greater degree of preexisting curvature.
