6
“TELL ME ABOUT A TIME WHEN YOUR WORK WAS CRITICISED”
How do I answer this behavioural/situational question? S.T.A.R.S
7
Situation—Describe the circumstances and the problem you faced.
When working in the hospital kitchen, I was having difficulty portioning the food correctly. I was new at the position and was having portions returned to me to be corrected.
8
Task -Explain what you needed to do, why you needed to do it and the challenges involved
I understood that portion control is very important, especially if someone is on a fixed calorie diet. Because I was still very inexperienced, I was really struggling to do this correctly.
9
Action—Describe the actions you took
The first day I had trained, I was given a sample plate to copy from. Because this worked so well for me, I again asked a more experienced employee to do up a sample serving for me so that I could ensure I was portioning correctly.
10
Results—Explain what happened as a result of your efforts.
This worked great! The rest of my shift was completed with no further issues. Each time I worked with an unfamiliar food, I asked a more senior employee to show me a sample portion until I became familiar with it.
11
Skills—Describe the skills you used to accomplish what you did.
**This one is not always included I really learned to feel comfortable in asking for help and in showing the initiative to ensure I had what I needed in order to complete my task properly.
