Monday 8/26/19 Warm-up Learning Target: RL5 I can…I can show how the order of events and manipulation of time create mystery, tension, or surprise. Draw your own plot diagram labeling the following plot elements: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Under your diagram, briefly explain the purpose of each plot element. REMEMBER: ALL WARM-UPS SHOULD BE AT LEAST ONE PARAGRAPH IN LENGTH

Monday 8/26/19 Agenda Learning Target: RL5 I can…I can show how the order of events and manipulation of time create mystery, tension, or surprise. Edgar Allen Poe Research : Using the laptops, research the answers to the questions on your handout. Catacombs and Carnival: Read the short passage on page and write a short response (3-5 sentences) underneath explaining the purpose of carnival. The Cask of Amontillado: Turn to page 131 to read the next short story as a class. As we read along with the audio, , underline examples of irony and highlight and unfamiliar words. NOTE: The lit terms quiz has been moved to tomorrow.

determine a central idea and explain its development throughout the text using specific details. Tech Tuesday: Report to lab 2413 to begin typing your short stories. Use your dialogue handout as a reference. Lit Terms Quiz: Silence your phones and place them in your bookbags on the front of the room. Write your name, date, and block on your scantron. The subject is “Lit Terms Quiz” The Cask of Amontillado (moved from Monday): Turn to page 131 to read the next short story as a class. As we read along with the audio, , underline examples of irony and highlight and unfamiliar words.

Learning Target: RL 4 I can… figure out the meaning of figurative words and phrases as they are used in the text. Lit Terms Retakes: If your name is not listed on the board under “Lit Term Graduates”, clear your desk to retake the quiz. If your name is on the board, please read your independent reading book until the retakes are complete. Cask Questions (moved from Tuesday): Once you have completed your quiz, turn to page 136 and answer questions 2-6, 8 and 10.

Learning Target: I can understand the purposes of punctuation within sentences. Tech Thursday: Report to lab 2413 to begin typing your short stories. Use your dialogue handout as a reference. Poison Tree – Turn to page 140 and read Poison Tree. When you are done reading, complete and discuss questions 1-3 with a partner. Theme Statements - Now that you have read the last literary work for this part of the unit, complete the remaining theme statements on the back of your neon theme statement sheet (this is individual). Unit 2A Study Guide: Once you are done with your theme statements, complete the study guide to prepare for the unit 2A test. Finish for homework *NOTE: Students who need to retake the lit terms quiz will do so during the study guide portion of class. REMEMBER: USA TEST PREP DUE TOMORROW!

Friday 2/1/2019 Learning Target: W5 I can… understand and utilize revision techniques. Short Story Writing (laptops) – Today is your last day to type your short story in class. Remember to proofread for errors and use MLA format. Short Story Plot Diagram –Once you have finished typing your short story, prove that your story contains all of the proper plot elements by completing a plot diagram for your story. *NOTE: Students who need to retake the lit terms quiz will do so during the study guide portion of class.
