Feasibility study Purpose:
To identify, define and quantify benefits in a business case for the purpose of choosing the right projects. Activities: Appoint a team Identify, define and quantify needs and benefits Involve stakeholders Identify risks (threats and opportunities) that could affect benefits Define various project deliverables, with associated rough time and cost estimates Evaluate alternatives Write a business case Appoint a project owner

Tender and contract phase
Purpose: Win the contract and create the best possible starting point for a successful project Activities: Receive and review an ITT from the client Appoint a tender team Plan the tender and contract phase Draw up a robust tender, including scope of work, schedule, cost estimate and contingency buffers for both schedule and cost. Send the tender to the client Plan and carry out contract negotiations Sign the contract Appoint a project owner

Planning phase Purpose: Activities:
To draw up a robust and realistic project plan To verify that the business case is still valid Activities: Draw up a project charter Organize the planning team – Hold a kick-off meeting – agree on objectives and constraints Make a plan for the planning phase Ensure an effective and rapid project start-up Define the scope of work Create a schedule and cost estimate Create a resources plan for the execution phase Perform a risk analysis and draw up a risk register Update the schedule and cost estimate by adding contingency buffers Perform a stakeholder analysis Put together the project plan Update the business case Present the project plan and business case to the project owner

Execution phase Purpose: Activities:
To perform the work defined in the activity descriptions To change the scope of work to increase the benefits Activities: Get work underway Follow up progress Report progress Organize and lead the execution team Manage deviations and risks Manage changes Communicate with stakeholders Hand over the project deliverables

Closing phase Purpose: Activities:
To document lessons learned and formally close the project Activities: Sum up the project’s progress Draw up a plan for any outstanding work Assess project objectives against actual performance and results Document all the lessons learned during the project Write the final report The project owner releases the project manager and themselves for deployment elsewhere The project owner decides that the project is formally closed

Benefits realization Purpose: Activities:
To realize the benefits defined in the business case Activities: Implement/use the project deliverables Assess benefits realization at regular intervals Document lessons learned for use as input for future investments
