Building your Introduction
Thesis statement can either be the first or last sentence of your intro paragraph. I prefer your thesis to be the last sentence You need to mention the book title underlined and the author. You might want to add a line that sums up the book, or a statement that clearly states how you interpret/analyze Chris’s actions Think of all the supporting ideas that will prove your thesis and mention them in your introduction.
4
Topic Sentences These are idea driven—not plot driven.
If my thesis is something like Chris was noble to try and live a life based on principles, but in the end it cost him his life because he isolated himself. Must prove: Lived life on principles Rejected materialism Rejected Lies (parents) Must prove: Isolation cost him his life

Building the Body Paragraph
Once I have established a topic sentence, I build in plot details, textual evidence, and analysis to support. TS: It is dangerous to isolate yourself and cut off communication to the outside world. Plot: Chris thought it would be a great adventure to try and live off the land in Alaska for several months. Every person he met along the way in Alaska asked him to try and reach out to his parents, or they tried to give him their phone number. Chris rejected their help because he was fixated on making it on his own. (INSERT QUOTE). Pick a quote that shows other people thought he was behaving in a dangerous manner cutting off communication. (ANALYZE QUOTE)
