1 Christ the King Psalm 2

2 Psalm 2 Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, 3 “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” 4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.

3 Psalm 2 He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6 “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.” 7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father. 8 Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.

4 Psalm 2 9 You will break them with a rod of iron;     you will dash them to pieces like pottery.” 10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;     be warned, you rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear     and celebrate his rule with trembling. 12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry     and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment.     Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

5 Verses 1-3: Rebellion of the World Against God and His Rule
Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, 3 “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.”

6 Verse 4-6: God’s Response
4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;     the Lord scoffs at them. He rebukes them in his anger     and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6 “I have installed my king     on Zion, my holy mountain.”

7 Bible Verses Job 42:2 I know that You can do all things, no purpose of yours can be thwarted.  Job 25:2 Dominion and awe belong to Him.  Daniel 4:35 All the people of the earth are counted as nothing…. There is no one who can refrain His hand or say to Him, “What have you done”?  Isaiah 40:23 He brings the princes to nothing and makes the judges of the earth meaningless. 24 No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner have their stems taken root in the ground, than He blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them away like stubble. 25“To whom will you compare Me, or who is My equal?” asks the Holy One.…  Psalm 107:40 He pours contempt on the nobles and makes them wander a pathless wasteland. Jeremiah 23:29 which said “Is not my word like fire declares the Lord and like a hammer hat breaks a rock in pieces?

8 Jesus is King Colossians 1:13 “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,” Rev 1:5 “…and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.” Psalm 89:27 “And I will appoint him to be my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth.”

9 Jesus is King John 18:37 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” At the cross Jesus and at the resurrection Jesus performed his kingly work. Despite man’s best attempts to stop Jesus becoming king and to prevent his kingdom from being installed God made Jesus his Son king.

10 Verses 7-9: Jesus’ Reward and Power
7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father. 8 Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

11 Bible Verses Genesis 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee and curse him that curse thee and in thee shall all families be blessed. Psalm 22: 27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto the Lord and all the families of the earth shall worship before thee Psalm 66:4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee. Psalm 72: All kings shall fall down before Him, all nations shall serve Him. Psalm 86:9 Al nations whom you have made shall come and worship before Him, o Lord; and shall glorify thy name.

12 Bible Verses Daniel 2:44 And in these days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed….. but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms and it shall stand for ever. Zephaniah 2:11 The Lord will be terrible unto them; he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship Him every one from his place, even all the isales of the heathen. Zechariah 9:10 He shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea to sea and from the river even to the ends of the earth. Zechariah 14:9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD and His name one.

13 Verses 10-12: Kiss the Son 10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;     be warned, you rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear     and celebrate his rule with trembling. 12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry     and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment.     Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
