1. Ms. Greenway and Ms. Goodemote Language Arts

2. 6th Grade ELA Our focus for ELA this year is “change.”
The book is broken into 4 units and ideally would then be broken into the quarters for the year.
The Four Units are:
Unit 1: Stories of Change
Unit 2: The Power to Change
Unit 3: Changing Perspectives
Unit 4: The Final Act

3. 6th Grade ELA
This class will look at multiple strategies and types of materials to further student’s literacy development.
Each unit contains things such as: poems, video clips, audio clips, short stories, narratives, pictures, etc.
Each unit builds off the previous one.
The Springboard books will be used throughout Cobb and up through graduation.

4. Springboard
This year Cobb county introduced the Springboard English Language Arts curriculum. This is created by Collegeboard.
The books are consumable meaning the students each receive their own.
The books DO NOT leave the room. Never ever.
The replacement cost on one of these books is $82.82.

5. Springboard
Springboard is also online interactive and ocassionally students may be asked to look things up at home if possible. (Students will receive log in capabilities later.)
Membean is an online vocabulary system that will also be implemented later.
Homework is asked to be brought to a minimum. Membean may be the only thing that is asked of the students to do at home other than reading.

6. Assignments
I will inform students of impending due dates and also post reminders on my blog.
Late work is accepted, but at a lower grade. Always turn something in because something is better than nothing. We do not want a student to dig a hole that they feel they can’t get out of.
Some students are still catching up due to last minute class changes. They will not be penalized for what they did or did not do in another teacher’s room.

7. Embedded Assessments
Each unit is cut into parts. Students will learn multiple strategies that will build up to a big embedded assessment.
Our first embedded assessment is half way through unit one. It will be a writing of a personal narrative.
The embedded assessments are posted in the room so that they may be referenced.
Learning targets are posted on the board.

8. Supplies
There was some confusion between supplies in Language Arts and Reading.
Language Arts asked for the 3-5 subject spiral bound notebook.
Reading asked for a binder with divdiers.
Students will do the majority of their work in the workbooks.
Students will also need to purchase Walk Two Moons before October when we would like to start unit 2.
