2. Background Information
Red Cloud’s Native American name was Makhpiyaluta, which means Red Cloud. His tribe was Oglala Sioux. He was born in 1822,
And died in 1909.

3. Early Life
Red Cloud lived in what is now western Nebraska, near the Platte river. Red Cloud’s mother was a part of the of the Oglala Sioux tribe, his father was a par t of a different tribe. His father died when Red Cloud was very young. Red Cloud’s uncle Chief Smoke, took his father’s place.

4. Later Life
There were a lot of fights with other Native American tribes when Red Cloud was growing up. When he was 19 year old, Red Cloud became a great warrior by killing his uncle’s enemy Chief Bull Bear. Some time after he became the chief, and married Pretty Owl in 1842.

5. Interesting Information
Red Cloud was the first to win a war against White Settlers. After the war and signing a peace treaty, Red Cloud traveled to Washington D.C. and became the Peaceful Chief.
