Treaty of Ghent European wars ended, so major causes of dispute with Britain no longer important. Ended the war Restored status quo ante bellum U.S. gained no land, but lost no land

Hartford Convention Federalists opposed the war. Met in December 1814 in Hartford, Connecticut. They had been against Embargo Act under Jefferson They wanted to prevent Republicans from gaining more power. Goal: to assert states’ rights rather than disunion Proposed to abolish 3/5 clause, limit presidency to one term, nullification, and briefly mentioned secession!! Actions were discredited and viewed as traitors. End of Federalist influence in politics.
