They wanted to prevent Republicans from gaining more power.
Goal: to assert states’ rights rather than disunion
Proposed to abolish 3/5 clause, limit presidency to one term, nullification, and briefly mentioned secession!!
Actions were discredited and viewed as traitors.
End of Federalist influence in politics.
