Where do people in the UK come from, and why?

To know the many origins of people in the UK and their reasons for coming.
To be able to locate the UK and other countries on a world map

3. Do you know, or can you guess where these British citizen’s families came from?

4. Your Task
Using the blank world map locate and label the location of the UK.
Now read information sheet 3 carefully and using an atlas find the place of origin of the immigrants into Britain.

5. Your Task
Mark on your map the immigrant groups place of origin. Draw a line to the UK and add the name of the group and the date they arrived.
Using three colours colour your lines as either:
Invaders – arrived to conquer the UK
Economic migrants – arrived for jobs to earn money
Refugees – came to escape war or persecution

6. Plenary
In pairs identify any patterns that appear on your map for example, are there immigrants from:
countries belonging to the British Empire
others are areas of conflict
Ares that are poorer than the UK
