Purpose is to promote economic interests of its members Examples include Agricultural Labor Business Professional

Purpose is to protest the status of its members and convince the government to take remedial action Examples NAACP ACT UP NOW

Purposes 3. Single Issue Purpose is to get governmental action on one issue Examples NRA Right to Life NORML

Purposes Public Interest
Purpose is to bring about good policy for society as a whole Examples Common Cause, Public Citizen (Nader’s group) LWV Sierra Club

Purposes Ideological Purposes is to convince government to implement policies that are consistent with their philosophies Examples ACLU Christian Coalition People for the American Way American Conservative Union

Purposes PAC’s Purpose is to contribute to campaigns

Incentives for Joining
Solidary Incentive Social Benefits – friendship, intellectual stimulation, romance, etc. Material Incentive Tangible Benefits – discounts, prizes Purposive Incentive Satisfaction of getting something done
