Rewards will be given for the following: Best Design Lightest Smallest
Egg Drop Project You will have today and Thursday to work on your egg drop designs. Make use of the time efficiently. Rewards will be given for the following: Best Design Lightest Smallest To win one of these categories your design must not fail
3
Physics Inquiry and Discussion
On the note card, write down some topics in physics/engineering that you would like to learn about or discuss in this class
4
Tools of Physics Every Answer should always have a number and a unit associated with it. Basic Physical Properties Mass Volume Speed Force Energy Pressure
5
Units of Physical Properties
Physical Property Symbol Unit Mass m kg (kilograms) Volume V π 3 ππ’πππ πππ‘πππ *Could be given in L (liters) as well Velocity (speed) v or u π π (πππ‘πππ πππ π πππππ) Force F N (Newtons) Energy E J (Joules) Pressure P Pa (Pascals)
6
Accuracy vs Precision In science, when performing an experiment or collecting data one thing a scientist looks for is consistency. This can come in two different forms. Accuracy and Precision.
7
Accuracy vs Precision Accuracy - refers to the degree of conformity and correctness of something when compared to a true or absolute value Precision - refers to a state of strict exactness β how consistently something is strictly exact.
8
Accuracy vs Precision Accuracy Precision Definition
Degree of correctness when compared to the true value How often something is exact Measurements Single measurement needed Multiple measurements needed Relationships Something can be accurate once, but to be truly accurate it must also be precise Results can be precise without also being accurate
9
Pick Accurate, Precise, Both, Neither
10
Neither accurate nor precise Both accurate and precise
Accuracy vs Precision Neither accurate nor precise Both accurate and precise Precise but not accurate
11
Complex Conversion Handout
This will be done on your computation paper and with colored pens. You may work with a partner Show all work and conversion factors
