United States asthma hospital discharge rates per 10,000 population comparing blacks, whites, and “others” from 1980 through 2002, from the National Hospital Discharge Survey of the National Center for Health Statistics. The rate of discharge for blacks is about 3 times that for whites. The rates for the “other” group (other than black or white) are more variable because of the relatively smaller size of the population.
