土木工程学院结构工程与防灾研究所 Research Institute of Structural Engineering and Disaster Reduction, College of Civil Engineering Innovative Soil Sensing for Geothermal Bridge Deicing 报告人( Speaker): Xinbao Yu, Ph.D., P.E. Assistant Professor of Geotechnical Engineering Department of Civil Engineering University of Texas at Arlington Texas, USA 时间 (Time): 2017年5月26日(周五) 15:30-17:00 地点(Venue): 土木大楼B504 主持人( Chair): 戴靠山 副教授 报告简介 (Outline) : Geothermal energy is a reliable, baseload energy source which can provide power 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, independent of weather conditions and has the potential to satisfy more than four-fifths of US energy needs. Bridge deicing is critical to ensure roadway safety, mobility, and productivity. Background knowledge on geothermal energy applications is first reviewed. Then fundamental soil properties, measurement, and newly developed thermo- TDR thermal and moisture probe are presented. Basic design and operation principles of geothermal bridge deicing, case studies and the on-going geothermal bridge deicing project at Texas are also discussed. 报告人简介 (About the Speaker) : Dr. Xinbao Yu is an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in civil engineering in 2009 from Case Western Reserve University. Before joining UTA, Dr. Yu worked as a research associate at Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC), LA USA. Dr. Yu’s research areas include geothermal energy applications, deep foundations, bridge scour, and soil sensors. Dr. Yu has led research grants over 3 million US dollars as PI and Co-PI with funding agency such as NSF, CALTRANS, and TXDOT. Dr. Yu is currently the PI on the 1 Million Dollar geothermal bridge deicing project funded by Texas Department of Transportation. Dr. Yu is a committee member of the TRB AFP20 and AFP60 and Geo-Institute Technical Committee on unsaturated soils and Scour and Erosion. Dr. Yu has authored or co-authored more than 30 SCI-indexed scientific papers. 欢迎教师和学生参加! All interested are welcome!
