Levels of select bacteria associated with periodontitis in periodontal pockets of subjects without a diagnosis of diabetes and in subjects with type 2 diabetes. A similar severity of periodontitis, but with lower bacterial counts, was identified in subjects with diabetes for A. actinomycetemcomitans serotype Y4 (A.a (b) Y4), P. gingivalis, T. forsythia, and T. denticola, all associated with periodontitis.
