Solution:
Let the number be x. The statement now becomes
Lets now rewrite statement as follows
A number x when added to 60 gives 75
Lets us now write algebraic equation for the above statement and then solve it
The equation is 60 + x = 75
x = 75 – 60 Transposing +60 from L.H.S to R.H.S
x = 15
Ans:- Then number is 15

3. Example2 :- 20 less than a number is 80. What is the number?
Solution:

20 less than a number x is 80

The equation is x - 20 = 80
x = Transposing -20 from L.H.S to R.H.S
x = 100
Ans: The number is 100
