What is SDI? SDI stands for Selective Dissemination of Information.
SDI is a method by which users registered in the library may create profiles which include search queries. These queries run at regular predefined intervals in predefined bibliographic bases and notify the reader of the new records found via the query by . A service “Selective Dissemination of Information - SDI - (sdi-01)” runs at regular intervals via the job_list to send the notifications to the readers. How to use SDI
4
SDI Permission Only users who have a profile which allows for the creation of SDI profiles may create a SDI profile. Here the profile “MA_LIB_SCI” does have SDI Permission How to use SDI
5
SDI Permission Reader has profile “MA_LIB_SCI” and thus he has permission to create SDI profiles How to use SDI
6
Creating the SDI Profile
Only a user who has logged in to the web OPAC may create a user profile How to use SDI
7
Creating the SDI Profile
The user then does a search for what will later be the query of his SDI profile. Here user searches for words “water and energy” in all fields How to use SDI
8
Creating the SDI Profile
Here user searches for word “library” in the subject field How to use SDI
9
Creating the SDI Profile
To create the SDI profile the user must click “Previous Searches” to first view the queries he has made How to use SDI
10
Creating the SDI Profile
After viewing the previous searches the user may select a specific query and then click “SDI Request”. How to use SDI
11
Creating the SDI Profile
After clicking “SDI Request” the user then fills in the details of his SDI profile For details of each of these fields see section “6.4 making an SDI request” of the ALEPH users guide chapter on web OPAC How to use SDI
12
Creating the SDI Profile
Multiple profiles may be created In the last example this query was used Now this query is being used How to use SDI
13
Creating the SDI Profile
Details of the second profile we are creating How to use SDI
14
Viewing the SDI Profiles
The user may view his profiles by clicking “My Library Card” after logging in... And then clicking SDI profiles How to use SDI
15
Viewing the SDI Profiles
From here each profile may be modified, duplicated or deleted. Also, a search using the query of the profile may be performed. How to use SDI
16
The SDI Profiles in Oracle
The SDI profiles are stored in the Z325 table of the usr_library These are the two profiles we created earlier in this presentation How to use SDI
17
The SDI Profile A new record is added to the database which answers the query of the profile “water_and_energy” How to use SDI
18
The service SDI-01 We will now run the service “Selective Dissemination of Information - SDI - (sdi-01)” How to use SDI
19
The service SDI-01 There are two options to run the service
The librarian running the service may choose whether the retrieval will include all new and/or updated records, or only new records. How to use SDI
20
The service SDI-01 Here we choose for the service to include only new records. How to use SDI
21
The service SDI-01 The user then receives a message by that new record exists which answers his query: This is the SDI Name, SDI message and SDI query which appear on slide 14, where user created his SDI profile How to use SDI
22
The service SDI-01 in job_list
The parameters used in running the service may then be entered into job_list to run on a regular basis. Here are the parameters as we ran sdi-01 on slide 20: TST50-YOELK>>cd $alephe_scratch TST50-YOELK>>grep start tst50_p_sdi_ start TST50,OPEN, And here it is in job_list: TST50-YOELK>>cd $alephe_tab TST50-YOELK>>grep sdi job_list W3 21:00:00 Y TST50 p_sdi_ TST50,OPEN How to use SDI
