RSWG Recommends 18 unique Trauma Registry data elements (not in NTDB)
RSWG Recommends a total of 100 Hospital data elements
The current Trauma Registry collects 182 Hospital data elements

5. NTDB Hospital Data Elements
There are 82 NTDB data elements
77 are NTDB National data elements
5 are NTDB optional and pertain to injury severity

6. NTDB Hospital Data Elements Compared to Current Trauma Registry Data Elements
22 data elements are unique to NTDB, there is not a current TR data element that matches it
18 of the recommended data elements are unique to the TR, there is not a NTDB data element that matches it

7. Unique Trauma Registry Elements for Hospitals
4 of the 18 unique elements are ID numbers for the TR, data set, medical record and facility
2 are discharge data (e.g. condition on discharge)
2 are charges and reimbursement
5 are related to multiple hospitals (e.g. date of arrival to first hospital)
5 are alcohol level, trauma team activation, and airway management

8. Hospital Performance Improvement Data Elements
The RSWG is currently working with stakeholders from Hospitals designated as Level III or IV to obtain their input on the recommended performance improvement data elements
There are 43 performance improvement data elements currently available in the Trauma Registry
