Expresses the relationship between the sides of a right triangle. States that the sum of the squares of both legs of the right triangle is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. More commonly written as

Examples The foot of a ladder is placed 6 feet up a wall. If the top of the ladder rests 8 feet up on the wall, how long is the ladder? SHOW WORK! Tommy walks 6 blocks north from school and 8 blocks west. What is the total straight-line distance from school to his home?

For any right triangle, there are six trigonometric ratios.
They include: sine, cosine, tangent, secant, cosecant, cotangent For sine, cosine, and tangent, you can use the acronym SOH-CAH-TOA to help determine the ratios.

Example Find the six trigonometric ratios for angle A in the figure below.
