Thermal energy is TOTAL kinetic energy – that means it’s both temperature & mass Temperature is AVERAGE kinetic energy – that means it’s just temperature Two items of the same mass can have different thermal energy if their temperatures are different A smaller object can have a higher temperature but lower thermal energy if it has less mass (cup of coffee vs an iceberg)
