2 Background My curiosity to discover my family background
Who is able to claim an identity? Tribes that included slaves as apart of their community as equals Anglo Adaptation based on word usage and religious affiliation

3 Research Question How do those registered in the Five Civilized tribes identify as in regards to race? White: Protestant, Straight, Beneficiary, Fair complexion “The term race refers to groups of people who have differences and similarities in biological traits deemed by society to be socially significant, meaning that people treat other people differently because of them.”

4 Hypothesis & Design They identify as neither white or black but have adapted as White I will research the five nations and account for how they refer to themselves in regards to race throughout the writings; Do they use more “Anglo” terms in their speak such as tribal or ethnic? Do they follow blood quantum as identification(who are the writers?)

5 Results Why does this matter?
“the forgotten group” What about the Black Natives? Anglo adaptation of “civility” Images of whiteness, None or few images of darker-skinned peoples associated with the Nations

Notions of ethnicity rather than nationality
