To induce very large short duration voltage disturbances in the Power Grid
How is Electricity Generated? Any one here remember their HS Physic experiment generating electric.
Basically a wire(s) are passed through a magnetic field. The wire intersecting the field induces a voltage causing a current to flow.
What if the wire was stable and the field moved? Yep that works too.
What if the wire was 100 miles and the field was large and short?
Hugh Voltage and Mega current when discharged.

I worked in the military electronics industry for ~ 20 years inside the classified world.
The Electronics containers used to package military hardware provides a high measure of protection EMP protection.
My point is: When the Media spews misinformation indicating that our military will be crippled. Do Not Believe it.

There is, to my knowledge, no material on this planet the blocks Electro magnetic energy!
If it can’t be blocked then what can we do?
By choosing a material that conducts EME very well perhaps we can re-direct it!

Permeability is the parameter that defines how well a material conducts Magnetic Energy

The earth’s crust is < permeable than air. So perhaps here is a solution. If we bury our data deep enough in the earth the offending pulse(s) will be attenuated enough to do no harm.

I am making two statements here:
The best solution to the problem is Mu-metal. It is what the industry uses to day. To both protect and Isolate signals
That is may not work based on the energy levels.

I found many other many options. All more expensive. There some deep drawn containers both squares and cylinders made of Mu-metal. One could just buy the package and be done.
