4. Literacy
Talk for Writing: Learn the model text and learn a new paragraph everyday. We use Talk for writing actions and then look at different aspects of the text, for example we’ve been looking at adjectives and nouns this week.

5. Phonics Letters and sounds
Phase 5 – use sound mats to practise reading sounds and words

Apps: Phonics play, Twinkl phase 3, 4, 5
Phonics screening – June. This assesses the children’s knowledge of the phonic sounds and their ability to blend 40 real and nonsense words.

7. Maths We use the Maths No Problem scheme
Current chapter will be noted on Class 1 blog (chapter 1: Numbers to 10)
Concrete – pictorial – abstract (concrete is the doing stage, during this stage, children will be using concrete objects to solve problems. Pictorial is the ‘seeing’ stage. Here, visual representations of concrete objects are used to model problems. This helps children to make the connection between the physical object they just handled and the abstract pictures. The abstract is the ‘symbolic’ stage, where children use abstract symbols to model problems.

Homework links school learning with you at home, which we aim to make purposeful, positive, fair, appropriate for your child, time limited and enjoyable.

Comprehension
Grammar / phonics activity
Weekly spelling list – please discuss the rule and practise (rainbow writing, silly sentences, hiding words in a drawing). Spelling activities will be given in activities as this ensures children are practicing them.
Encourage children to use the sound mats, orally compose their sentences, re-read their work and check punctuation.
Spelling activities will be sent out.

Please encourage your child to read regularly at home.
It does not have to be a school book.
You can share books together.
Ask lots of questions about the story, characters, setting.
Ask your child to prove their answer by finding it in the text.
Remember to record this in their reading logs.

12. P.E Indoor gymnastics on a Monday Outdoor games on a Friday
P.E kit should include
Jogging bottoms
Shorts
Plimsolls or trainers
House coloured t-shirt
Jumper
Hair should be tied up on P.E days and earrings taken out or covered up.

13. How can I help my child? Hear your child read as often as possible.
Read to your child.
Support your child with their homework, practising phonics sounds and number bonds.
Make use of IXL, Education City, Phonics Play, Hit the Button
Spelling – spelling lists and tricky words. Also days of the week and numbers to 20 in words.
