Central Florida Diversity Learning Series Evaluation Summary of Session 2 on March12th Tools for Today’s Multicultural Workplace Presenter: Marian Stetson-Rodriguez

EVALUATION DETAILS A total of 20 evaluations were turned in, 8 of which were filled out by managers and 12 of which were filled out by individual contributors or employees. A total of 36 people attended the session. The first 4 questions asked participants to rate their knowledge before and after the session, on a scale from 1-5. Questions 5-8 were open-ended with room to write in responses.

I can distinguish 3 cultural approaches to planning, gaining information, and resolving conflict.

Managers: Building trust by considering the 3 types. Cultural approaches relating to conflict. All of it! Learning the different types of cultures. 3 cultural approaches.

Individual Contributors: Dimensions of cultural approach for individuals. Everything was valuable. Learning that I am a “Linear Active.” Cultural qualities model. Personality styles and impact on group work. To be really open and look at work culture to include all cultures and how they interact with each other. The 3 cultural approaches made a great model an will be useful for personal and work settings. Loved the assessment.

OPEN-ENDED ANSWERS How will you use one or more of the tools presented/ practiced today? Managers: Richard Lewis’ model. In everyday management of staff. Thinking about team dynamics and onboarding. In my role consulting leaders. Self-assessment. How to communicate better with people with different cultural styles.

OPEN-ENDED ANSWERS How will you use one or more of the tools presented/ practiced today? Individual Contributors: Focus on recognizing cultural approaches. Taking it back to my team. Generate working session for team. Research, and more studying.

How might you integrate what you learned about what it means to be an ally for new immigrants to the U.S. workplace, so they become full contributors in your multicultural organization? Managers: Step up and ask questions before following the same pattern. As community volunteer/stakeholders. Onboarding approaches. Purposeful approach Acknowledge, get to know.

How might you integrate what you learned about what it means to be an ally for new immigrants to the U.S. workplace, so they become full contributors in your multicultural organization? Individual Contributors: Working with our regional resource council. Bringing this information to regional resource groups. Around talent pipeline. I’m not a part of an organization but these are useful career skills.

Session should have started on time – the end was rushed. Not fair to those who were here on time. Otherwise, all else was great. Thanks! Great presentation, thank you! Room was uncomfortably cold at times.
