4 3rd Theme: Human-Environment Interaction
Human-Environment Interaction- Dependency, Adaption, and Modification How we depend on the environment, how we adapt to it, and how we modify it Examples: In India, farmers wait for monsoons to come for the successful growth of their rain-fed crops In Alaska and Northern Canada, native people wear clothing made out of animal fur to help keep warm In South Florida, the Everglades were drained in order to build roads, houses, and to populate the area

5 4th Theme: Movement Movement- population immigration, emigration, and distribution in the countries of the world Immigration: the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country Emigration: the act of leaving one's own country to settle permanently in another; moving abroad Distribution in the countries of the world: transporting of goods from one place to another Examples: Immigration: Roughly 9 million people have moved to the United States since 2010 Emigration: Roughly 3 million Americans have moved to another country Distribution: Trade between Mexico and the United States is estimated to be $1.7 billion daily, things such as auto parts, beef, and avocados.

6 5th Theme: Region Region- Formal, Functional, and Vernacular Examples:
Formal: a place that is unified by a common political entity (city, state, country) Functional: usually an area of land that has a central point and is connected by a network of transportation and communication systems that help the movement of people, goods, and ideas within that system Vernacular: places in the world that share unifying characteristics, people tend to imagine borders and create “mental maps” of regions.
