2. 1st Theme: Location Location- Absolute and Relative Examples:
Absolute location: latitude and longitude or its exact address
Relative location: where something is compared to something else
Examples:
Absolute location of Franklin Academy Cooper City: S Flamingo Rd, Cooper City, FL 33330
Relative location of Franklin Academy Cooper City: FACC is 8 miles east of Franklin Academy Pembroke Pines and next to Flamingo West Park

3. 2nd Theme: Place Place- Physical and Human Aspects Examples:
This would include: name, population, cultures, way of life, climate, animals, landforms, and nature
Examples:
Miami, Florida
Roughly 400,000 people
36 square miles
Mixed cultures, primarily Latin American/Caribbean cultures
Coastal land

4. 3rd Theme: Human-Environment Interaction
Human-Environment Interaction- Dependency, Adaption, and Modification
How we depend on the environment, how we adapt to it, and how we modify it
Examples:
In India, farmers wait for monsoons to come for the successful growth of their rain-fed crops
In Alaska and Northern Canada, native people wear clothing made out of animal fur to help keep warm
In South Florida, the Everglades were drained in order to build roads, houses, and to populate the area

5. 4th Theme: Movement
Movement- population immigration, emigration, and distribution in the countries of the world
Immigration: the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country
Emigration: the act of leaving one's own country to settle permanently in another; moving abroad
Distribution in the countries of the world: transporting of goods from one place to another
Examples:
Immigration: Roughly 9 million people have moved to the United States since 2010
Emigration: Roughly 3 million Americans have moved to another country
Distribution: Trade between Mexico and the United States is estimated to be $1.7 billion daily, things such as auto parts, beef, and avocados.

6. 5th Theme: Region Region- Formal, Functional, and Vernacular Examples:
Formal: a place that is unified by a common political entity (city, state, country)
Functional: usually an area of land that has a central point and is connected by a network of transportation and communication systems that help the movement of people, goods, and ideas within that system
Vernacular: places in the world that share unifying characteristics, people tend to imagine borders and create “mental maps” of regions.
Examples:
Formal: Cooper City, FL
Functional: Miami, FL…Miami includes suburbs like Kendall, South Miami, Overtown
Vernacular: Middle East…countries that are similar enough to us that we group them together
