Closures Annual average harvest area closures = 167 (last 4 years)

Reduction in closures in 18/19 17% less closures than previous Closures due to microbial factors increased – Vibrio and E.coli Native microbes, contamination by external sources need to stay vigilant and be aware of risks and limit them where possible – Birds, weather, changes in catchments
3
Drivers of Closure (%) Number of closures has been consistent in recent years. Reduction in closures in 18/19 year Samples not submitted resulted in approx. 7% of closures in 2018/19 Opportunity to improve?
4
Changes to Environmental Triggers
APC samples have allowed caused change 74% of samples were in APC range Data has resulted in management trigger changes Both increases and decreases – appropriate level of risk management changes in what stations we are using – BOM and DPIPWE hydrometric networks Looking for opportunities to make triggers more robust Ensure that everyone is clear on what triggers are, how they work and what is required to demonstrate that residual risk is low. Triggers ok and salinity provided, get areas open as soon as we can.
5
Enhancing delivery Focus on practical and relevant risk controls
Management plans Grower resources Technical forums Ideas? Focus on data collection on and analysis to ensure that risk controls are practical and effective Consumers, there by protect brand and market access New format Improve communication Annual Review – Data and Rational Management Plan – Rules and Requirements Growing area meetings Feed back on program delivery Answer questions on technical issues Updates to shellfish quality section of DPIPWE site
6
Achievements 2018/19 Effective functioning management committee
Finalised strategy and workplan - significant projects: Revamped approach to reporting and management planning (complete) Database development (95% complete) Review of Biotoxin Management Plan (fully scoped) Grower led sampling program (scoping)
8
Achievements 2018/19 Market access – ASQAP Audit by Dept of Agriculture & Water Resources (C’wealth) Sampling, testing (Operational) Budget of $759,000 (levy funded) $510,000 biotoxin Approx $250,000 contract sampling and testing Closures, record keeping and reporting
9
2019/20 Budget – operational (levy funded)
10
Vision 5 - 10 years Transition to new program complete
Higher level of industry autonomy – industry led programs / projects Regulatory Services taking audit and compliance role – integrated with Industry Development Supported by appropriate technology and decision systems Higher levels of industry capacity to grow a safe and delicious product ShellMAP
