Improvement comes with hard work. There are no short cuts. You must have a passion for the game – otherwise the hard work is too hard. We must support each other and work hard on behalf of our fellow officials and our crew. It’s all about the 2 hours on the field. Be prepared…then enjoy it!

The referee is the backbone of the association! The referee models continuous improvement and shares his goals with the crew. Pre-season goal setting and “soup to nuts” setting expectations Crew assignments Weekly routine Productive pre-game, halftime, post game

8 Weekly Routine of the Crew
Study of a particular rule including case book examples Read the Weekly Bull and view the Instructional Video Make a phone call to a crew member or crew chief Review your dead ball and pre-snap routine Help evaluate last week’s game video Scout the next week’s teams Review our philosophies and axioms Work on your fitness and flexibility

An element is observed but no material restriction or advantage gained. An element is observed and material restriction but no advantage gained. Element plus material restriction plus advantage – penalty! Safety and/or totally obvious – penalty!

11 Possible Halftime Checklist
How are your coaches? How are your sidelines? Chains? Timer? Game tempo? Are we managing key players well? Conduct a review of fouls. Create a list of all unusual plays or plays that were unusual or controversial to the crew, coaches, players and/or fans. What does the 2nd half need? (blow out/over time/rivalry/etc.) How are we doing on our weekly goals?
