2 Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Unpaid, job-protected leave provided by a federal law (the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993) that provides certain benefits to eligible employees who find it necessary to be absent from work due to their own illness or that of an immediate family member. All benefit-eligible Faculty, Administrators and Classified Staff with one year of service are eligible for Family Medical Leave. FMLA runs concurrently with Sick Leave, Short-Term Disability (STD) and Vacation Leave. FMLA is tracked on a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30). Faculty/Administrator Classified FMLA - entitled to a total of up to 13 work weeks/520 hours FMLA - entitled to a total of up to 12 work weeks/480 hours

3 Short-Term Disability (STD) Help workers that suffer a temporary illness or injury that leaves them out of work for a short period of time. Faculty/Administrators Classified 46 days of STD Leave per fiscal year is allowed if the employee provides documentation from a medical doctor that such leave is necessary due to a diagnosed medical condition. Administered by Standard Insurance Company Weekly Benefit: 60% of the first $3,850 of your Pre-disability Earnings, reduced by Deductible Income Maximum: $2,310 before reduction by Deductible Income Benefit Waiting Period: 30 days No STD Benefits are payable during the Benefit Waiting Period Maximum Benefit Period: 180 days minus the length of your Benefit Waiting Period

4 Long-Term Disability (LTD) Help workers that suffer a temporary illness or injury that leaves them out of work for a longer period of time. Standard Insurance Company administers both Faculty/Administrator and Classified LTD plans. Faculty/Administrators Classified Is the lesser of the following: 66 2/3 of your pre-disability earnings to a maximum monthly benefit of $7000 or 70% of your pre-disability earnings, reduced by deductible income 90 day benefit waiting period can be purchased by employees on an after-tax basis Premiums are determined by salary, age and PERA vesting status After a six-month waiting period, benefits are payable up to 60% of your pre-disability earnings

5 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Law that prohibits, under certain circumstances, discrimination based on disability. Applies to all Faculty, Administrator and Classified Staff. The College provides reasonable accommodations: when an applicant with a disability needs an accommodation in order to be considered for a job; when an employee with a disability needs an accommodation to enable him or her to perform the essential functions of the job or to gain access to the workplace; and when an employee with a disability needs an accommodation to enjoy equal benefits and privileges of employment

6 Workers’ Compensation Coverage is provided to all active Faculty, Administrative, Classified, Student Hourly and Work-Study persons on payroll at Metro State at the time of injury. Workers' compensation insurance covers work-related injuries and diseases Benefits include: medical - all bills paid, no deductible or co-pay - wage loss - replacement wages for time lost from injury, 66% of employee's average weekly wage not to exceed a maximum amount annually set by the Division of Workers' Compensation - death benefits to dependent family

7 Leave-Sharing Program Available to Administrative and Classified Staff
To establish a pool of leave in order to provide some income protection when an employee would be absent from work for a prolonged period of time and has exhausted all paid leave. Contributions to the leave bank can be made at any time and must be deducted from accrued annual leave. A minimum donation of one day (8 hours) of annual leave is required for each application to the Leave bank. One full year of service to Metro State before being eligible for banked leave. A request for banked leave must be made on the appropriate application form provided by the Office of Human Resources with proper documentation. The application must be approved by the requesting employee’s supervisor prior to submission. Application does not constitute approval of request.

8 Sick Leave for health reasons only, including diagnostic and preventative examinations, treatment, and recovery. Accrued sick leave may be used for the health needs of the employee, employee’s child who is under the age of 18 or an adult child who is disabled, parent, spouse, injured military service member, legal dependent, or a person in the household for whom the employee is the primary care giver. The appointing authority may require documentation of the familial relationship. Faculty/Administrators Classified 20 work days of fully paid sick leave per fiscal year at the salary in effect at the time sick leave is used 6.66 hours of sick leave per month. The maximum accrual rate for employees hired after June 30, 1988 is 360 hours (45 days)

9 Vacation Leave For an employee’s personal needs
Vacation Leave For an employee’s personal needs. Use is subject to the approval of the appointing authority. The appointing authority may establish periods when annual leave will and will not be allowed based on business necessity. Administrator Entitled to four calendar weeks of vacation annually, not to exceed 20 working days. May carry over a maximum of 40 vacation days from one fiscal year to the other. Classified Years of Service Hours Earned per Month Maximum Accrual 1 – 5 8 192 Hours (24 days) 6 – 10 10 240 Hours (30 days) 11 – 15 12 288 Hours ( 36 days) 16+ 14 336 Hours (42 days)
