1 Cross Cutting Concepts (CCCs)
Concepts Found Across All Scientific Disciplines

2 I Can... Identify concepts that are present in scientific concepts and phenomena.

3 Cross Cutting Concepts
Patterns Cause and Effect Scale, Proportion, and Quantity Systems and System Models Energy and Matter Structure and Function Stability and Change

4 Patterns Observed patters in nature guide organization and classification. Prompt questions about relationships, and causes underlying them. How do we identify patterns?

5 Cause and Effect Events have causes, sometimes simple, sometimes multifaceted. Deciphering casual relationships, and the mechanisms by which they are mediated, is a major activity of science and engineering.

6 Scale, Proportion, and Quantity
In phenomena, it is critical to recognize what is relevant at different size, time, and energy scales. Recognize proportional relationships between different quantities as scales change.

7 Systems and System Models
Tracking energy and matter flows into, out of, and within systems help us understand the system’s behavior.

8 Structure and Function
The way an object is shaped or structure determines man of the properties and functions.

9 Stability and Change For both designed and natural systems, conditions that affect the stability and factors that control rates of change are critical elements to consider and understand.

10 For each phenomena below, decide which concept or concepts would apply to each item.
Ocean Tides Acceleration of cars Tectonic plate movement Weather Forecast Climate Influenza Outbreak Exothermic Chemical Reactions Technology advances

11 Mini Poster Each group will be assigned a Cross Cutting Concepts to develop an informational mini poster for. (8 groups total) Requirements: Accurate information conveyed to viewers. Must include the definition for the CCC. Uses the full area of the paper to express the information. Minimum of two examples. Neatly constructed with full color.
