Grading: based off weighted point system
Includes: Quizzes, test, assignments, labs and professionalism There will NOT be unannounced pop quizzes (Unless you give me a reason) Pop quizzes can not be made up if missed

Missed scheduled tests will be made up either during the midterm or final exam. Makeup tests will be worth a maximum of 70% Missed quizzes can NOT be made up Late classwork/homework will not be accepted and will not be made up. Homework due at start of class

Course outline: Week 1&2 Laboratory Safety/Design and Introduction to the Microscope Lab: Identify parts of the microscope, collect and view hair samples under magnification Week 3&4 Parasitology/Fecal Sedimentation/Floatation Lab 1: Collect skin scrapings and view under microscope Lab 2: Collect fecal samples, set up a fecal sedimentation sample, set up a fecal floatation sample, centrifuge a fecal sample, and view under microscope.

Week 5&6 Hematology (Blood and its components), blood parasites, abnormalities seen in blood cells. Lab 1: Practice making diagnostic blood smears Lab 2: Make diagnostic blood smears, stain samples and view under microscope. Student should be able to identify blood cells as detailed in class lectures. Week 7&8 Conclude Hematology/Anemia introduction FINAL EXAM

2 absences per term are allowed without grade deductions
Leaving class for greater than 15 minutes results in an absence 3 tardies = 1 absence Greater than 15 minutes tardy = absence Excused absences only apply if absent 3 or more consecutive days and present approved documentation. All other absences will be factored as one of the allowable for the semester.

Time in ICU: As an ICU technician you are challenged everyday! You will have to make decisions quickly and at times, it can be very stressful and overwhelming. That being said, it can also be an amazing experience!
