The Modern Language Association (MLA) Format is used for identifying research sources.
In MLA style you
briefly credit sources in your paper (in-text citations)
give the complete description of each source in your bibliography (Works Cited Page)

8. In-text Citation Guidelines
When you mention the author and the title of the source in your signal phrase, you only have to put the page number at the end!
Example:
George Miller suggests in “Metacognition: Reading and Thinking,” that “All students need to implement strategies to improve their comprehension of texts” (77).
The second time you use evidence from that source simply include the author’s last name and page number.

Model:
Acceptable Quotation: In “The Garbage Crisis Is a Myth,” John Tierney exclaims that “ Today’s landfills for municipal trash are filled mostly with innocuous materials like paper, yard waste and construction debris…They contain small amounts of hazardous waste…but studies have found that these poisons stay trapped inside the mass of garbage…so there’s little reason to worry about modern landfills” (53).
Acceptable Paraphrase: Garbage found in landfills is usually harmless and although it contains some dangerous substances, these are trapped inside the mass of the garbage in the landfill so citizens do not have to worry about any contamination (Tierney 53).
Acceptable Summary: Citizens do not have to worry about the safety of landfills because the harmful wastes that are found in garbage are enclosed inside the buildup of old garbage in the landfill (Tierney 53).
