1 Year 1 Summer 1 (2018-2019) Topic: I’m Alive Courage
T his term as part of our Creative Curriculum Children will be learning about “I’m Alive” we are learning about places where plants and animals live, about different places where we can live and about animals that are endangered. Which things are alive and which things are not. Dog moves and is alive; Car moves but is not alive. The television is motionless and is dead; the cactus is motionless but is alive. Year 1 Summer 1 ( ) Topic: I’m Alive Homework: We hand out homework on…. Friday and expect Maths and Phonics Homework back on Wednesdays. Our value this term is: Courage Physical Education (PE) and Yoga: We have PE on Tuesday and Yoga on Thursdays Please make sure your child has the correct PE kit as shown our our school website and that all kit is clearly labeled.

English: Reading Match graphemes for all phonemes Read accurately by blending sounds Read words with very common suffixes Read contractions & understand purpose Writing Spell very common ‘exception’ words Use very common prefixes & suffixes Form lower case letters correctly Form capital letters & digits Compose sentences orally before writing Read own writing to peers or teachers Grammar Leave spaces between words Begin to use basic punctuation: . ? ! Use capital letters for proper nouns. Use common plural & verb suffixes Speaking & Listening Listen & respond appropriately Ask relevant questions Maintain attention & participate PSHE: In PSHE we will be learning all about: Relationship Personal, social and emotional development, in particular self-confidence and self-esteem, making relationships, behaviour and self-control, and sense of community. Science: This term we are learning all about Plants • Know that scientific enquiry involves asking questions, collecting evidence through observation and measurement • Be able to pose simple scientific questions • Be able, with help, to conduct simple investigations • Be able to sort living things into simple groups • Know the names of the parts of plants. Know that plants need light, water and soil to grow. Educational trip to Kew Garden Maths: Count in multiples of twos, fives and tens. Solve one step problems involving multiplication and division, by calculating the answer using concrete objects, pictorial representations and arrays . Fraction: recognise, find and name a half as one of two equal parts of an object, shape or quantity. Recognise, find and name a quarter as one of four equal parts of an object, shape or quantity. Compare, describe and solve practical problems for: lengths and heights (for example, long/short, longer/shorter, tall/short, double/half) practical problems for: mass/weight [for example, heavy/light, heavier than, lighter than]; capacity and volume [for example, full/empty, more than, less than, half, half full, quarter] Philosophy, Religious and Ethics (PRE) and Sanskrit: COURAGE Children will understand courage is in action and we probably felt very good about what we did.  And we should! And understand courage shows up in many ways all around us.  Courage is standing up for a friend, helping someone in need or sticking with something that is hard for us to do.  As a young person, courage is one of the most important things we can develop.  Having courage makes us a better person, a better student and a better citizen. Creative Curriculum In Geography we’ll be finding out: About places where plants and animals live, about different places where we can live and about animals that are endangered In Art, we’ll be finding out: How to draw movement in animals and people, how to create a still life picture. Computing: multimedia In computing we will be: Using Algorithms to design our own games. Learning about programming Testing out each others games to see if they work .
