Rheumatic Fever AKA: Rheumatic heart disease Streptococcus (Group A)
Inflammatory disease that damages heart valves Brain, spinal cord, joints, skin Children ages 6-15 ~20 days after strep throat or scarlet fever (saliva, nasal discharge) Common in developing countries. No cure. Treated with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory agents, cardiac medications Bacterial shape: cocci Gram-positive bacteria

Your powerpoint should include no more than 4 slides with the following things listed: Picture(s) of bacteria & any related ailments. Any alternate names of the disease What shape is the bacteria? (bacillus, cocci, or spirillum) Is it gram-negative or gram-positive? Transmission (How do you get the disease?) Signs/Symptoms (What does it affect in the body?) Who typically is affected? (animal, specific age-group, race, geographical location, etc.) Number of victims (total or annually, depends on bacteria) Treatment (most effective weapons against the germ) Resources
