1 Deuteronomy 6:4-9 – Shining the Light in Your Family
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

2 To Build a Godly Family You Need a Firm Foundation
Foundation Block #1 – Believe in God. Foundation Block #2 – Have a personal relationship with God. Psalm 127:1 - “Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” Psalm 73:26 - “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Foundation Block #3 – Love God from your heart.

3 To Build a Godly Family You Need to Teach Your Children
Teach your own children – YOU shall teach them. Teach your children diligently. Teach your children at home. Family devotions benefits include: Bible knowledge/foundations Theology Open discussion time with Q and A Quality family time Practical applications Application: Set a regular time for family devotions And play with them (Proverbs 17:22)

4 To Build a Godly Family You Need to Teach Your Children
Teach your own children – YOU shall teach them. Teach your children diligently. Teach your children at home. Teach your children in real life settings. Ask questions What do you see? Who made that? What did you learn in Sunday School? How does the Bible say you should respond?

5 Building a Godly Family Will Bring Blessings From God
Deuteronomy 6: You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you, 15 for the Lord your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; otherwise the anger of the Lord your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth. 6:18 - You shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the Lord swore to give your fathers. Judges 2:7-8,10 - The people served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had seen all the great things the Lord had done for Israel. Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of a hundred and ten… After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel.

6 Building a Godly Family Will Matter For Eternity
What is your goal for your children? How do you define success? John 15:5, “If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” There is nothing worse than God saying, “Depart from me; I never knew you” to our children. Are you doing everything you can to prepare your child for the final exam?

7 Conclusion Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Matthew 19:14 - Permit the children to come to me. Every person (parent or not) should join this battle for the next generation. Spurgeon - I think I know of no grander sight than that of a gray-haired man who has served the Lord Jesus from his youth up.

8 Conclusion – Three Simple But Powerful Applications
Have Bible time with your children every day. Have at least one spiritual conversation with your children every day outside of the normal Bible time. Pray for your children's salvation every day.
