1 Supporting the family and friends of problem drinkers for over 65 years
Holding screen Pi is very important, remind ourselves why we should get involved in PI in the first place. Hello.. Grew out of AA… Started by families of AA members and we now have 24,000 groups worldwide and 800 groups across the UK and Eire Today I’m going to talk about how families are affected by someone else's drinking

2 You don’t have to drink to suffer from alcoholism
£3 Billion Costs NHS Alcohol related crime costs £7.3 billion pa In the UK 2.6 million children are living with a parent who is drinking hazardously For every drinker five others are affected 8-14 million working days lost 8,758 alcohol-related deaths in 2015 Total cost to UK plc £11 billion pa 73% of domestic violence 23,000 arrests per week for alcohol related crime Young offenders abusing alcohol – 78% history of parental drinking or abuse In 2015/16, 339,000 people were admitted to hospital for alcohol problems

3 It is easy to see what alcohol is doing to the drinker – but can you see what it is doing to you?
Do you worry about how much someone else drinks? Do you tell lies to cover up for someone else’s drinking? Are you afraid to upset someone for fear it will set off a drinking bout? Do you feel that if the drinker loved you, he or she would stop drinking to please you? Do you feel like a failure because you can’t stop the drinking? Do you make threats such as “If you don’t stop drinking I’ll leave you”? Do you search for hidden alcohol? If you answer yes to just some of these questions please read on

4 How can living with an alcoholic affect us?
