12. SDI-12 – How it Works Obtaining data from a sensor
Simplest and oldest method of command to obtain data from the sensor is initiated with the measurement command:
aM! With a reply from the sensor atttn<CF><LF>
Limitations:
Only one sensor can be polled at a time
Only 9 values can be returned in a single measurement request

16. SDI-12 – How it is implemented on the iRIS 270
Device detection
The iRIS 270 scans through a the SDI-12 address the mandatory address range of (0 – 9) using the a! command mentioned previously
Records those that respond with their address
Using the list of addresses found it requests the sensors identity, using the aI! command mentioned previously
The results are then used to identify the sensor in the configuration.
Attempt to use concurrent with CRC measurement command (aCC!), if not fall back to standard measurement command (aM!)
The number of data value to be returned, as part of the reply from the measurement request, is also used in the configuration to limit the number of variables.
