Safety Concerns Possible eye and skin irritation. Wear goggles at all times. Limit skin contact. Wash hands after lab. Fumes flammable-keep away from flames.

Cleanup- Period 0 Return tray of materials to original state: Dump ice/warm water in sink (unless contaminated-then pour in labelled waste container) and return foam cups to beakers. Please put rulers in tennis ball can on workbench. Wipe up any spills on tray with wet-wipe, if necessary. Put used viscometer(s) into labelled waste container. Put test tube in green wash tub for dirty glassware. Put folded aprons and goggles away in drawers.

Cleanup- Period 4 Dump ice/warm water in sink unless contaminated-then pour in labelled waste container Put set of 3 tubes of oil on green tray on workbench. Put permanent marker, pin and plastic cup on workbench as indicated by labels. Return thermometers to bin on work bench Put styrofoam cups in green wash tub labelled for styrofoam. Put ruler in tennis ball can on work bench. Put used viscometer into labelled waste container. Put empty test tube and beakers in green wash tub for dirty glassware. Wipe tray with wet wipe and stack on workbench. Throw away wet wipe. Put folded aprons and goggles away in drawers.

Lab Report Format Date and Title: See S&E Lab Format
Problem Statement: Copy this: What is the relationship between the viscosity and the temperature of a motor oil when viscosity is measured as flow rate with a pipette viscometer using oil at three different temperatures? Hypothesis: See S&E Lab Format and generate your own Hypothesis. Materials: See S&E Lab Format (copy list from procedure) Procedure: write “See Go With the Flow Procedure”. Data: Paste the provided Data Table 1 into your report.

Data Analysis: Add the sample calculation (with work shown for one temp.) and Results Table 1 into your report. Sample Calculation Results Table 1 Flow Rate = 4 𝑐𝑚 𝐴𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 Using Graphing Guidelines from the DHSSDT, plot Flow Rate vs. Temperature. Establish mathematical relationship if possible. On report, indicate the reader should “see Graph”. Conclusion: See S&E Lab Format plus add response to additional analysis of class data as directed by Mrs. McGreevey. Additional Analysis Use the class data to answer the following in CER fashion: Are the viscosities of every motor oil of every SAE- rating affected in the same way by a change in temperature? Make a CLAIM. Be specific to the class data in providing EVIDENCE for your claim. Explain your reasoning as to why the results may be the way they are. How would this affect the specific uses for the oils in different vehicles or environments?
