Supporting your child by talking about the tasks Signing completed work Making sure homework is in on time! Homework will be issued after the children attend for full days and this will normally be given out on Thursday and back on Tuesday

8 Reading Every child is unique!
Take time to share books, not just ‘hear’ reading Clues – picture, shape of word, sounding out, context Reading every night (doesn’t have to be a book!) Reading books should be kept in their book bags and brought to school everyday

9 Phonics Sounds not letters, eg. ssssss not es
All sounds have actions – ask your child! Use knowledge of sounds to begin blending and reading simple words, eg. sat Reinforce at home using simple games and activities, eg. sound hunt

10 Common Words Most pupils will be introduced to three common words per week. A note of these will be sent home along with homework. This runs hand in hand with spelling and writing. Regular practice is key, but not a chore! Take time to ensure your child gains confidence with these common words at home and practise them as much as you can. Have fun – bingo, spot the word, write the word anywhere you can (in the mud in the garden!) etc.
