Curriculum Seventh Grade Language Arts Topics of Study:
We will start this year with reading The Giver by Lois Lowry together. A variety of activities and assignments will go along with reading our class novels. We will also be reading Nothing But The Truth by Avi, and one of five novels about the Holocaust- The Diary of a Young Girl, Night, The Hiding Place, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, or Hana's Suitcase. We will conduct a book club with these novels as we will visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum during our Washington DC trip in the spring. We will also be using our Literature textbook in class to emphasize and study various literary elements. When writing, we will focus on narrative, expository, and argumentative writing styles. We will also work through the writing process: from brainstorming to outlining to drafting to editing to revising to publishing.

Special Projects Independent Reading- 8th Grade
For this trimester, just as they did in the sixth grade, I will have the eighth graders keep track of their reading. They will be able to pick their own books to read, and I only ask that they read 20 minutes a day and keep track of the number of pages they read each trimester. We have set a goal at the beginning of the trimester of how many pages the students will try to read and keep track of the number of pages they read throughout each trimester.
