1967 Six Day War (Israel doubles land). Several Arab countries attacked Israel. 500,000 Palestinians fled their homes. Attacks continued for years over land. 5 Arab armies invade Israel May 16, 1948 Holocaust May 15, 1948 – “Al-Nakba” means catastrophe - day Israel declared a state 1964 PLO formed: Palestinian Liberation Organization 1969 Yasser Arafat becomes leader of PLO (dies in 2004) 1972 Palestinian terrorist took 11 Israeli Olympic athletes hostage in Munich, Germany. All were killed.

2010 – Conflict Continues 2005 Israeli’s leave Gaza Strip 1981 Sadat assassinated Mid 1980’s. Hamas and Hezbollah founded. Hamas based in West Bank and Gaza Strip. Over the last 25 yrs. both have led frequent and violent attacks killing many civilians in the crossfire. 1978 Camp David Accords – Gave Sinai Peninsula back to Egypt. Israeli Prime Minister Begin, Pres. Jimmy Carter, Egyptian Pres. Anwar Sadat. Other Arab countries stopped doing business with Egypt. 2006 War breaks out between Hezbollah and Israel: Hezbollah kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers and killed 8 others; Israel responded with full scale attacks.
