Data Centre Upgrades Case for action
To address 8 significant findings from an IBM Data Centre Assessment One of the transformers has reached its capacity limit UPS batteries are reaching end of life There is excess AC capacity AC Unit humidifiers have all been disabled, investigate Electric wiring does not meet today’s best practices Perimeter walls of the computer room are not fire rated and hence do not meet code Ceiling tiles do not meet standards, HEPA/ULPA cleaning not part of routine cleaning Physical security gaps must be addressed to protect for safety, unauthorized access and security

Data Centre Upgrades Proposal Alignment to University Goals
Consolidate two existing computer rooms into one, saving on electrical, cooling and floor space Address relevant UPS, AC and electrical in consolidated room Where feasible, seal all walls to address fire rating Upgrade ceiling tiles to meet standards Address security gaps through the installation of cameras and other appropriate access controls Alignment to University Goals The Data Centre houses our enterprise systems, all of which are key to supporting all the goals of the University. By upgrading the physical components of our Data Centre we ensure the safety and security of our staff, the protection of our electronic assets and optimized efficiencies in power consumption.

Data Centre Upgrades Plan: Start/End: Summer 2018 to Summer 2019
Joint effort between CCS and Physical Resources Each of the 8 significant findings will be addressed over the span of about 1 year. Start/End: Summer 2018 to Summer 2019 Budget: One-time funding of $1,000,000 is estimated to complete. This is an initial approximation depending on what can or cannot be reused during the physical migration.

Discussion Data Centre Upgrades PMO Observations:
Conformance to Building Code Improved electrical and environmental (heating, AC), fire protection and safety measures Mitigates our risk of power outages, fire protection, safety Mitigates our potential liability by meeting code Discussion
