The purpose of blood is to:
• Move oxygen throughout the body • Carry waste to the kidneys • Fight infections and heal wounds • Carry nutrients from the digestive system throughout the body Blood

What makes up blood? • 55%- Plasma: dissolved materials and 90% water
• 43%-Red blood cells: carry oxygen and carbon dioxide

What makes up blood? 2%-White blood cells: fight infection
• Platelets: large pieces of cells that help clot blood

What moves your blood around?
• Blood travels through blood vessels • Arteries carry blood full of oxygen and nutrients away from the heart • Veins carry blood full of carbon dioxide into the heart

Capillaries are little blood vessels that carry blood between arteries and veins

The 4 blood types: • AB is the universal recipient - it can receive all blood types • O is the universal donor which - it can be given to anyone • Each blood type has a chemical marker in it • The body will attack any blood cells that it doesn’t recognize
