6 2050 AIM Strategy Establish a Combined Exclusive Maritime Zone of Africa (CEMZA) Engage civil society and all other stakeholders to improve awareness on maritime issues Enhance political will at community, national, regional and continental levels Enhance wealth creation, and regional and international trade performance through maritime-centric capacity and capability building Ensure security and safety of maritime transportation systems Minimize environmental damage and expedite recovery from catastrophic events Prevent hostile and criminal acts at sea, and Coordinate/harmonize the prosecution of the offenders Technical Cooperation Division

7 2050 AIM Strategy Protect populations, including AMD heritage, assets and critical infrastructure from maritime pollution and dumping of toxic and nuclear waste Improve Integrated Coastal Zone/Area Management in Africa Promote the ratification, domestication and implementation of international legal instruments Ensure synergies and coherence between sectoral policies within and between the RECs/RMs Protect the right of access to sea and freedom of transit of goods for landly-connected States. Raise awareness amongst stakeholders of the strategic importance of Maritime Governance for sustainable development Highlight the important role Africa needs to play at international maritime forum Raise awareness on the challenges and opportunities of the African Seas and Oceans Promote the aims and objectives of the 2050 AIM Strategy Raise awareness on Africa’s “Blue Economy” Enhance the focus on maritime safety, security and marine environment protection Technical Cooperation Division

9 Key players Primarily member State of the AU through:
Government agencies responsible for the maritime sector i.e. Maritime Administrations; RECs, MoUs on PSC, Maritime Ambassadors, etc. Collaboration with: specialised UN agencies (IMO, FAO,WHO,UNDP,UNDG,etc.) Maritime educational training institutions: WMU, IMLI and other such institutions on the African continent International financial institutions such as ADB etc., NGOs, private sector Technical Cooperation Division

10 Role of MARADs Policy initiation & advice to Governments ratification, domestication and enforcement of relevant international Conventions and treaties Include 25 July of every year in the calendar of the Administration Celebrate the day with maritime and shipping related activities through symposia, workshops, seminars, outreach programmes Create interactive media platforms or social media such as Facebook, Twitter etc. Technical Cooperation Division
