Behavior Policy Clip Chart- All students will have the opportunity to move up. This chart is meant to reinforce positive behavior. ( Calendar in their folder) Brag Tags- Students will have a chance to earn individual tags and wear their necklaces. They will come home at the end of the year. Class Bucket- Filling each other’s buckets helps fill our class buckets. This incentive is a full class effort. The students made the rules and have agreed on how we need to behave and treat each other to earn rewards and/or have the logical consequences that follow inappropriate behavior.

Birthdays and Friends List
All third grade classrooms will be celebrating birthdays. In our classroom, the birthday child will receive special privileges for the day. If you would like to visit on your child’s birthday to read a book or implement an activity, please let me know in advance. Friends List: Fill out and return as soon as possible. I would like to send home by the middle of October.

Areas of Study Writer’s Workshop Reader’s Workshop, Guided Reading
Words Their Way- Vocabulary Everyday Math Science Studies Handwriting Without Tears- Cursive Writing

Writer’s Workshop Begin each Lesson with a mini-lesson.
Students work independently to create stories in their Writer’s Notebook. Writing Units- personal narratives, information writing, persuasive writing, fairy tales, poetry and research writing. Assessments: writing rubrics will be used to assess each type of writing.

Reader’s Workshop Begin each Lesson with a mini-lesson.
Students read independently, with a partner, and in guided reading groups. Students will work to strengthen reading responses throughout the year by utilizing strategies that will be taught in mini-lessons. Some strategies include: summarizing making connections, visualizing, characterization, inferring, theme, etc.

Word Study and Vocabulary
Words Their Way program Students will sort words into categories, write words, create sentences, etc. Skill checks will typically take place every Friday. Vocabulary will be done daily. Students will review five words a week to define, use in a sentence, find synonyms/antonyms, illustrate in a Picture dictionary. Skills checks will typically take place every other Friday. Grammar Students will learn a new part of speech each week and implement into their writing. Skills check will take place every Friday.

Math Every Day Math program Some main points include:
+/- math facts, word problems, fractions, time/elapsed time, measurement, multiplication/division facts, geometry, place value in whole numbers and fractions. Students will soon be able to connect to Everyday Math online for increased support.

Science Units of study: Structures of Life Weather and Climate
Motion and Matter These units come from the Next Generation Science Standards, and we will ne using FOSS (Full Option Science System) kits to support student learning.

Social Studies Units of Study
Government- The students will gain an understanding of the events that led to the American Revolution. They will study the branches of our government. Bordentown History- The students will learn about some of the most important figures to help establish the township and city of Bordentown. Maps/Geography- The students will explore various map skills, and they will take a journey through the 50 states in our country.

Homework Routine/Agenda Book
Monday- Thursday Math Home Link Spelling/ Language Arts practice/Reading Comprehension Reading Menus and Responses Friday Journals- Please read your child’s letter and respond to him/her. These are used to encourage the children to share their weekly experiences from the classroom; while building their writing skills. Please sign the agenda book each night in their O.W.L. binder.

Lunch/ Snack Money should be placed in an envelope or baggies with your child’s name, class and whether it is meant for lunch or snack. ½ days, no lunch is served (Students eat lunch or snack from home in the classroom) Please note, we do have a peanut and tree nut allergy in the classroom.
