3 Leadership Model for Education in my Community cont’d
Values: Based on 6 character attributes which are the foundation of genuine relationships with students, parents and each other. They allow students to feel safe in a positive climate for learning and prepare them to be empathetic citizens of the world. The character attributes are: Care Cooperative Honesty Inclusive Respectful Responsible

4 I believe the community in which I work for takes a transformational leadership approach. The principal and some colleagues lead to promote change. This change is done by creating a supportive environment whether this be in staff meetings, grade team meetings, etc. They inspire me to focus on the common goal not only within our school but that reflects the boards vision and values. Co-operation and team-based communication is critical to this success and ultimately creates an environment of intellectual stimulation.

5 How Can Other Communities Learn from our Community?
A Clear Vision All staff, parents and students are clear as to the direction of the school and the focus to ensure all students are successful. Individualism As a school community, we have the opportunity to create our own focus as to what we want to work on which relate to the boards vision and values. Learning Opportunities Our principal is supportive of going to Professional Development that not only benefits the students and your colleagues, but yourself as a lifelong learner. How Can Other Communities Learn from our Community? Resources Finding and using different resources to reach all students is critical. This is important because each community should receive support and guidance in ways that suite their needs. Collaboration Through a supportive admin team, we collaborate with staff to promote well-being of each student at every age e.g. allowing release time, staff lunch-and-learns. Creativity Sharing and being creative in any field is beneficial. We are encouraged to take risks and ask questions to better our practice.

6 Where Can I Learn and Improve Upon my Leadership Model?
1. 2. 3. Use Professional Development Days and Release Time to gain more knowledge and observe what colleagues/schools are implementing with a particular focus on Indigenous Peoples. Further my knowledge of the different leadership styles. This will be useful when reflecting upon my leadership style in certain roles and ways I can improve upon it. Integrating more Indigenous leadership perspectives into my practice such as being a facilitator, a thinker a consensus leader, etc. Integrating what I’ve learned into my practice (e.g. seven generations, protecting the land, etc.) showing I am an advocate.
