Figure 1 Schematic Showing a Stripped-Down Version of the Neural Circuits of the Cerebellum and the Putative Sites of Learning in the VOR For simplicity, cerebellar interneurons have not been included in the diagram, and the climbing fiber has not been drawn with its actually extensive synaptic contacts on the Purkinje cell. Each set of fibers and cells is labeled using the same terminology as in the text. The shaded areas show the two sites of learning postulated from systems neuroscience analysis of the VOR circuits in monkeys. One site is at the parallel fiber to Purkinje cell synapse in the cerebellar cortex and is also the site of cerebellar LTD.
