2 Figure Regulation of glycemia in the postprandial period. Note that different nutrients stimulate release of a variety of hormones, some of which are involved in regulation of blood glucose. Several also affect gastric emptying including GIP, amylin, GLP-1, PYY, which ultimately inhibit vagal efferent function, resulting in inhibition of gastric emptying. Some of these hormones (eg, GIP, GLP-1) also stimulate β-cell mass and insulin secretion.
