Answer: rebuilt the nation’s government & economy; wrote a new constitution for Japan (changed their government from a monarchy to a democratic constitutional monarchy)

When and why did the Cold War begin?
Answer: After WWII the Allies needed to rebuild Europe. The US & Britain wanted to spread democracy and a free market economy in Europe; but the USSR wanted to spread communism and a command economy in Europe.

How did the Cold War play out in Korea? The USSR (wanted to spread their ideology of communism to other countries) fought on the North Korean side and the US (wanted to spread their ideology of democratic republics to other countries) fought on the South Korea side
Explain the US’s policy of containment during the Cold War? To stop the spread of communism in governments throughout the world, especially in countries whose economies and governments were unstable - still true today, but also includes unstable countries were terrorist leader can absorb power (to contain communism)
