6 Who was Julius Caesar? Born on July 100 BCE Patrician, but not wealthy
Father died when he was 16 Married Cornelia, a patrician from a wealthier family Intelligent, ambitious, and had a good sense of humor

7 What are his early accomplishments?
Great military general Great Speaker Won the following territories for Rome France Germany Britain But he wanted to come back to Rome and lead the country!

8 What he did for Rome! Roman society offered a lot to a person who was willing to work hard for it. Caesar was one of these people. He spent a lot of money to make people happy. This made him popular. Senate told him to break apart his army before coming back home! He refused and crossed the Rubicon—a river that split Roman territory from France.

By crossing the river, he was making his army fight with their own COUNTRYMEN! This is called a CIVIL WAR He didn’t care about the consequences or if it leads to his death.

Face on Roman coins Changed calendar month from Quintilis to July Gave conquered people citizenship Gave land to veterans (Remember the Struggle of the Orders) Rewarded people for having children (increase population)

12 What are his accomplishments as dictator?
Established a police force Improved the court system; appointed judges that were impartial and not corrupt Set up Roman cities across the Mediterranean to raise money

13 What led to his demise? Very paranoid and suspicious of everyone
In February 44 BCE ordered Senate to make him dictator for life. BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH! March 15th 44 BC assassinated by his friends ET TU, BRUTE?
